Women Chemists Commitee of Georgia, USA (WCC-GA)
What is WCC-GA?
The Women Chemists Committee of Georgia (WCC-GA) is a sub-committee of the Georgia Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The committee focuses on advocating and promoting women in chemical sciences. There are local WCC groups around the USA that are all sub-committees of the various chapters of ACS. There is also a national WCC leadership group which is a sub-committee of the national ACS group.
My role at WCC-GA:
I very much enjoying mentoring others, and so I was very honored to be able to take on the role of chair of the Women Chemists Committee of Georgia (WCC-GA). This is a particularly active committee within the local chapter of ACS, and has a very diverse group of members. I organize social/networking/mentoring events, act as a mentor to junior chemists in the committee, and generally make it my mission to promote and mentor women chemists and women chemical engineers everywhere that I go. I also help to co-ordinate and brainstorm the activities that are led by chairs of sub-committees within WCC-GA. These sub-committees that I oversee are the Outreach Committee, the Professional Development Committee, the Scholarship Committee, and the Social Media Committee . In my role as WCC chair, I am also a voting member of the leadership committee of the Georgia Section of the American Chemical Society.
Awards/news for WCC-GA:
March 2018 – the WCC was very honored to receive a certificate of appreciation from BK International Education Consultancy, for commitment, support, and sponsorship of the STEAM Sunday Series: When Science Meets Scents. This series was designed to further the public understanding of chemistry.
Any Georgia chemists are welcome to connect with the group by contacting me directly, or by sending an email to email@example.com
