July 2018: My undergraduate research student (Cindy Gallardo) and I are using the computational chemistry program Gaussian to predict Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy results (SERS) and Infra-red (IR) spectroscopy results from biologically relevant molecules, in order to understand those results further, and to aid scientific progress within the fields we choose to study.
1 – Probing the relationship between lipid composition in the body and brain diseases such as depression, with Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy
2 – Early diagnosis of certain types of cancer, such as breast cancer, with Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS)

April 2015: Poster presentation of experimental physical chemistry research at the national meeting of the Materials Research Society (MRS) . In San Francisco, CA. In-situ SERS Detection of Catalytic Reactions by using Au-decorated Truncated Nanocubes
July 2017: Final report submitted to the National Science Foundation (NSF). I was Co-PI on a grant of $195,997, awarded to purchase a research-grade FTIR spectrometer and to enrich IR spectroscopy learning through inquiry-based activities.
